Small Changes Can Go A Long Way

If you are serious about going on a diet and losing weight, you have to be serious about the decisions you make with regards the food that you eat. It is not enough to control your portions; it is also important to watch what you are eating and if the food you are eating is prepared in a way that will ruin your diet. The small changes that you make concerning your eating habits shall definitely go a long way. 


For instance, did you know that while fruit juice contains more nutrients than pop soda, a glass of fruit juice has just as much calories in it as a glass of Coke? So, instead of drinking fruit juice, eat fresh fruits instead. But if you simply must drink fruit juice, better drink one glass less than your usual. 

Salads are popular fare for people who are following a weight loss diet. Salad greens are packed with great nutrients that the body needs to stay fit and healthy. For some added taste, we often dress up our salad with some salad dressing. However, just what kind of dressing you put on your salad can negate the benefits you are supposed to get when eating greens. If you are fond of eating your salad with commercial salad dressing or � shudder � mayonnaise, you might as well give up your diet. Commercial salad dressings and mayonnaise are full of calories. Olive oil would be the better choice of salad dressing, but even olive oil has its share of the bad calories that is almost equal in amount to a serving of mayonnaise. To neutralize this, mix olive oil with balsamic vinegar, add a pinch of salt and pepper, and then sprinkle the mixture on your salad greens. This is definitely a much better choice than mayonnaise. 

Since we are proclaiming here the evils of mayonnaise in terms of calories, be careful of what you eat whenever you are in a fast food joint. Burgers and chicken sandwiches are often served loaded with mayonnaise, not to mention some helpings of grease and lard that are terrible if you are on a diet. Pass up the mayo, if you please. Or better yet, go home and make your own burgers. 


Speaking of grease and lard, another thing you may seriously want to reconsider is eating fried chicken. All the oil and the grease and the fat that come dripping with every serving of fried chicken that you eat are bad for you and for your diet. If you are really craving for the taste of chicken, opt for some char-broiled chicken breast. Do not forget to get rid of the skin before you eat it. 

Another thing that you must take seriously when you are following a weight loss regimen is your consumption of fiber. Fiber helps your digestive system properly process the food that you eat. You can get your fiber from eating vegetables like spinach, broccoli, celery, carrots and beans. You may find yourself releasing some gas after munching on some, but never you mind. Fiber is good for you. 

Watching while you eat with discipline is necessary if you are taking your weight loss issues seriously. You will thank yourself later on.
